Storybook Land Canal boats has welcomed guests since Disneyland opened its gates on July 17th 1955. To take this journey you needed a "D" ticket and you could pick it up at the ticket booth shaped like a lighthouse. The lighthouse served this special purpose until 1982, when a new passport system was adopted and allowed access to all attractions for an increased entry fee. Most of the ticket booths were removed except a handful like the lighthouse. It was closed up, refreshed and left at the entrance of the attraction to continue welcoming visitors. It remains there is a piece of history often forgotten but in plain sight for everyone to enjoy. A lot has changed in Disneyland, here is a look at Storybook Land Canal boats and the area around it from the early park years. Now the Mad Hatter Tea Party takes it the space where the sitting area was and behind it now, the Fantasyland theater and Mickey's Toontown. The park continues to grow and change and photos like this show the simple beginnings of this amazing park. Casey Junior Circus Train has been in Disneyland since opening day July 17th 1955. Casey even had its own ticket booth, designed with the idealized look of an old train station. Guests could purchase their individual ticket here for a fun train ride. Once the ticket booth was introduced in October 1955, Casey required a "B" ticket to ride. By 1982 ticket booths were phased out and the booth no longer served its original purpose. It wasn't removed though and was instead refurbished and left next to the queue of the attraction a reminder of the Disneyland of yours past hiding in plain sight.
Sleeping Beauty Castle is the original Disney Park icon and symbol of Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Something else unique to the castle is it’s drawbridge. It actually works (or did) and has only been used twice.
On opening day, July 17, 1955, the drawbridge was lowered to let the children into the most magical land of Fantasyland. Then after a complete renovation of Fantasyland, the drawbridge was lowered again on May 26, 1983. In 2014, heavy wooden railings replaced chain lifts, virtually removing any chance of it opening again. The next time you visit, take a look as you walk through the gates to see the old gate mechanism used to move the gate. A fun piece of park history sitting there for everyone to see. In the animated film Beauty and the Beast (1991), there are sixty rooms in the castle altogether. The castle itself, according to Cogsworth, had utilized architecture dating back to the Baroque period. The castle is divided into two wings: the East Wing and the West Wing. At the end of the East Wing is Belle's Room and at the end of the West Wing is Beast's Room. The West Wing contains many broken items, while the East Wing is nicely furnished by comparison. There is also a secret door in the West Wing to the former room of Forte, the large pipe organ who did not want the spell to be broken. This west wing is meant for the Beast and his eyes alone. The access of all others is forbidden, specifically Belle, of which he gives her a stern warning upon her arrival, presumably to keep her out of trouble. However, Belle's curiosity and obstinacy soon gets the better of her, and she makes her way up an elegant flight of stairs and through a haunting corridor to the West Wing. Belle notices a shredded portrait of a young Prince, and soon sees the warm glow of the Beast's Enchanted Rose. Unfortunately this magical place was permanently closed Dec 10th, 2023. The only park to have a Beauty and the Beast attraction is at Disney Tokyo.
I found these super cute Snoopy Halloween themed PJ bottoms last year and paired them with a basic black cami and striped robe.
