100 years ago Walt Disney and his older brother Roy, founded the ‘Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio’. Still operational, it is the longest-running animation studio in the world and produced the first full-length animated feature film in the USA, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in 1937.
The original caption for this photograph of Walt Disney from September 1960 reads: “Having put his paw print on the dotted line, Bobby, a skye terrier from the north of Scotland, is signed to a Hollywood contract by Walt Disney. The latest in a long line of animal actors Disney has groomed for stardom, the shaggy pooch will have the title role on Greyfriars Bobby, a dog whose devotion to his master earns him immortality.” Did you know that Disneyland Resort offers more than 150 different dies that can be pressed on a penny, nickel or even a quarter? Most of the pressed coin machines you’ll find are for pennies, but there are currently 57 coin press machines in the Resort. Most of which can be found on Main Street, U.S.A., but there are also a few near the exits of some attractions.
Fun Facts: The art of pressing coins dates back more than 100 years. The earliest known pressed coins are from 1818 Vienna, Austria. In the late 1800s, pressed coin souvenirs were introduced into the United States at the World’s Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, Illinois.
